WINFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SY 25’-26’
What is a Virtue?
A “Virtue” is a universal behavior that is recognized by people of many different cultures. Research has suggested that they are necessary for every child’s happiness and well-being, and once they are learned, a child will likely follow them for life. When immersed into a child’s daily being, virtues help to build a child’s character and inspire those around them to become better people as well.
When virtues are intertwined with daily instruction students are exposed to various experiences and stories that model each virtue and help them understand the importance of each one. As school-house role models, we are responsible for not only displaying these virtues but reinforcing them throughout the school day and year. When emphasis is placed on positive behaviors and peer interactions to prevent negative character traits from forming, we are ultimately developing future leaders.
How will this look at Winfield?
1.
At the beginning of each new month, classroom teachers will introduce the “Virtue” by way of an activity, book, and/or lesson.
2.
Throughout the month, it should be the topic of conversation during Morning Meetings, when students are consistently demonstrating it during the day, and whenever the opportunity presents itself in lessons.
3.
Students can earn Mammoth Squares, from any adult, when caught exhibiting the “Virtue” throughout the building each day.
4.
At the end of the month classroom teachers will select and submit the names of 2 students who have consistently demonstrated the “Virtue”. Names should be emailed to Ms. Broyles at
[email protected] by the due dates indicated.
5.
Each student will receive a certificate and small gift from the administrators, have their picture taken and placed on the Wooly Mammoth Virtue Board in the lobby until the end of the next month.
