Dear Students and Families of Winfield Elementary School:

As we continue with the last semester of the school year, I wanted to take this opportunity to remind our school community of the appropriate use and impact of social media.  In light of recent threats to schools around the county, we encourage parents to speak to their children about the appropriate use of these tools, including social media sites, and the importance of refraining from sharing or forwarding images of threats to a school or community.  We also encourage parents to refrain from sharing and forwarding these messages, as well.  Forwarding these types of messages inhibits an investigation by police agencies by making them more difficult to determine the origin of the message or post.  Often our children understand neither the severity of sharing and forwarding this type of material nor the legal ramifications.

Going forward, if you are aware of any inappropriate conduct in our schools or in the community which might impact the school environment, you should notify a school administrator immediately.  Also, if something is brought to your attention after school hours, you should contact the police immediately.  If the conduct is not associated with or a direct threat to the school, you should contact the police immediately.  The police will notify school officials, if warranted, based on their investigation.

The safety of our students is our top priority in providing a positive learning environment.
